Sustainability
Our Initiatives
Your Sodexo Campus Dining Team is dedicated to sustainability. We know we can all work together to make a positive impact right here. In addition to the many initiatives we take on as a company, we have implemented the following programs specific to Eastern University.
Local Suppliers
We are proud to support sustainability by partnering with local suppliers who share our commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients. Many of our suppliers are based right here in Pennsylvania. By sourcing locally, we not only ensure the freshest ingredients for our dining program but also reduce our environmental impact and support the local economy. Our partnerships reflect our dedication to sustainable practices and regional growth.
In addition to our sustainability efforts, we are proud to partner with the YACHT (Youth Against Complacency and Homelessness) club at Eastern University. As part of this collaboration, every Thursday and Sunday, YACHT members use donated meal swipes to collect prepared lunches from our dining services, which they then distribute to individuals experiencing homelessness in the surrounding communities. Their dedication to serving those in need is truly inspiring, and we are honored to play a small role in supporting their impactful work.
Reusable Containers
In an effort to reduce waste and support sustainability, we’ve made reusable containers available for students when they take their meals to go. Students can now simply take out their meals from Walton Dining Commons, cutting down on single-use packaging. This straightforward approach helps minimize waste and encourages environmentally conscious dining choices across campus.
Move-Out for Hunger Food Drive
At the end of each spring semester, we partner with the Move-Out for Hunger Initiative to help reduce food waste and support local communities. As students prepare to move out, they are encouraged to donate any unused, non-perishable food items that might otherwise go to waste. These donations are collected and distributed to Eagle’s Essentials, Eastern University’s on-campus food pantry, and local food banks, providing support to individuals and families facing food insecurity.
